Spring 2026 PEAK Experiences Awardees for Undergrad Research
Several COE, Bouvé, COS, DMSB, and Khoury students mentored by COE faculty are recipients of the Spring 2026 PEAK Experiences Awards from Northeastern’s Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships. This group of students from across the university will explore a wide variety of topics and questions from developing brain-computer interfaces, to analyzing air quiality data to inform future legislation, Socioeconomic Factors impact on twin infants, and more.

Motivation Leads to Action for Sydnie Bayles
Sydnie Bayles, BS’26, chemical engineering, has brought her love for science and philanthropy to Northeastern, participating in many co-ops and extracurriculars. Recently, Bayles and her lab partner, Marissa Darcangelo, garnered a first-place award presenting their research at AIChE 2025.

Achievements and Impact with Aashna Mahurkar
Aashna Mahurkar, BS’26, bioengineering, explores her passion for service and interest in medical devices throughout her studies at Northeastern. Recently, Mahurkar and her team won first place in the Fall 2025 Capstone Cup for bioengineering.

Two ChE PhD Students Win Big at Competition
Qudus Rafiu, PhD’28, and Lawrence Ajayi, PhD’27, chemical engineering, attended the same undergraduate university but did not meet until they happened to join the same lab during Lawrence’s master’s at Ohio University. Since then, they have become close friends and have worked together in research and studies. Recently, their teamwork helped them win the second-place prize in the NPG x Liberty Mutual Business Case Competition.

Husky Heat Harvesters Win $10K for Visionary Campus Energy Plan
Led by Emma Ortiz, E’26, mechanical engineering, a team of Northeastern University students won first place in a U.S. Department of Energy competition for their design of a theoretical geothermal energy system beneath the campus’s Centennial Common.

ECE PhD Student Receives Best Paper Award at IEEE RoboticCC 2025
Sarvesh Prajapati. MS’24, robotics and PhD’30, computer engineering, received the Best Paper Award for his work on “Spectral Signature Mapping from RGB Imagery for Terrain-Aware Navigation” at the 9th IEEE International Conference on Robotic Computing and Communications (RoboticCC 2025).

Northeastern Duo Wins First Place at Disney Industrial Engineering Case Competition
Industrial engineering students Aaron Wang, E’27, and Kristina Carandang, E’27, won first place at The Walt Disney Company’s third annual Disney Industrial Engineering Case Competition. Their achievement marks the first time a Northeastern team has taken the top spot in this national event.
