NSF CAREER Award To Design Robots To Navigate Crawlspaces
ECE Assistant Professor Alireza Ramezani was awarded a $681,000 NSF CAREER Award for “Dynamic Locomotion With Plasticity for Remote Sensing in Crawlspaces.” The research will focus on developing an autonomous robotic device that mimics bird and bat movement to effectively move through tight crawl spaces while gathering data through sensors.

NSF CAREER Award To Improve Immune Response With AI
BioE Assistant Professor Mona Minkara was awarded a $827,000 NSF CAREER Award for “Decoding the Code of Glycan-Collectin Interactions: Computational Engineering of Surfactant Proteins for Tailored Glycan Recognition.” The focus will be to better understand and improve the immune system response to pathogens.

Developing Urban Visualization and Data Analysis Toolkit
Industry partner Kitware, a software development company who is collaborating with CEE Distinguished Professor Auroop Ganguly and his research team, was awarded $1.6 million in DOE Phase II SBIR funds for the development of an Urban Visualization and Data Analysis Toolkit to address urban climate change threats. The Northeastern team will develop translational quantitative methods for the analysis of interconnected infrastructure systems.

Northeastern COE Students Win 2nd Prize in DASSH Challenge 2024
A COE student team placed second in the 2024 Designing Actionable Solutions for a Secure Homeland (DASSH), a student challenge focused on solving simulated homeland security problems created by Soft Target Engineering to Neutralize the Threat Reality (SENTRY) research center and Arizona State University’s Center for Accelerating Operational Efficiency.
