Creating 3D-Printed Materials Inspired by Nature To Protect EV Vehicle Batteries
MIE Associate Professor Yaning Li is designing new materials and fabricating them using 3D printing to protect EV batteries by creating a tiled auxetic metamaterial inspired by nature. She received a Spark Fund award from the Center for Research Innovation at Northeastern for this work.

Improving Inkjet Printing by Encapsulating Ink in Liquid Crystal for Advanced Materials
MIE Assistant Professor Xiaoyu Tang, in collaboration with Xiaoguang Wang from Ohio State University, was awarded a $625,000 NSF award for “Inkjet Printing Framework by Droplet Impact-induced Ink Release From Liquid Crystal Receiving Substrate.”

Nicolas Casilli, E’21, MS’21, PhD’26, electrical engineering, was awarded the best paper award at the IEEE International Frequency Control Symposium and the European Frequency and Time Forum (IEEE IFCS-EFTF 2023) for his paper “An Ising Tag With a LiNbO3 Resonator for Temperature Threshold Sensing.”
