New Bioinnovation Center in Ghana
BioE/COS Professor Lee Makowski established a Bioinnovation Center in Ghana at Academic City University College. He is developing and distributing affordable, locally designed medical technologies, including ventilator technology that was originally developed by the late Craig Smallwood, PhD’18, bioengineering.

NSF CAREER Award for Efficient, Environmentally Friendly Ammonia Production
ChE Assistant Professor Qing Zhao received a $618,100 NSF CAREER Award for “Computational Characterization of Reaction Mechanisms and Catalytic Microenvironments in Redox-Mediated Ammonia Electrosynthesis.” She is researching a more efficient and environmentally friendly ammonia production process; ammonia is a critical component of the production of fertilizer.

Using AI for Disaster Response Research
CEE/Khoury Assistant Professor Fatemeh Ghoreishi, in collaboration with the University of Utah and the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, was awarded a $900,000 grant from the U.S. Army for the project, “Interactive Human-Agent Teaming Via Multiple Feedback Types,” which aims to develop advanced machine learning and optimization techniques to provide real-time guidance and recommendations for human teams operating in disaster scenarios.
