Restuccia Receives ONR YIP Award for 6G Spectrum Dominance
ECE Assistant Professor Francesco Restuccia was awarded an Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Program Award for “Polymorphic Wireless Computing for Ultra-Wideband 6G Spectrum Dominance.” The project will lay the foundations of a new paradigm named polymorphic wireless computing for 6G wireless systems.

Do Micro-Level Social Interaction Parameters Effect Pandemic Policy Success?
MIE Associate Professor Babak Heydari’s research on “Micro-level Social Structures and the Success of COVID-19 National Policies” was published in the Nature Computational Science journal. The study shows that the micro-level structure of person-to-person interactions—measured by average household size and in-person social contact rate—can be an important explanatory factor in the success of COVID-19 policy.

Ostadabbas Paper Wins Best Scientific Paper Award at the ICPR 2022
The paper entitled “InfAnFace: Bridging the infant-adult domain gap in facial landmark estimation in the wild,” authored by ECE Assistant Professor Sarah Ostadabbas and her team at the Augmented Cognition Lab, received the Best Scientific Paper Award in the Biomedical Track at the 26th International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR 2022).

Designing the Next Generation of AI-Driven Dynamic Spectrum Access Systems
ECE Assistant Professor Francesco Restuccia, in collaboration with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (lead) and Florida International University, was awarded a $750K NSF grant for “SWIFT: AI-based Sensing for Improved Resiliency via Spectral Adaptation with Lifelong Learning.” The project will demonstrate a system for spectral situational awareness through radio frequency machine learning.
