ChE Assistant Professor Sidi A. Bencherif‘s research on “Oxygen-Generating Cryogels Restore T-Cell Mediated Cytotoxicity in Hypoxic Tumors” is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Advanced Functional Materials. Firmly established as a top-tier materials science journal, Advanced Functional Materials reports breakthrough research in all aspects of materials science.

This cover artwork depicts a nebula-like tumor organoid nested on a biomimetic cryogel. Specifically, it represents a confocal microscopy image of a three-dimensional cryogel scaffold exhibiting a unique interconnected macroporous network (green) while providing cushion-like physical support to a primary tumor organoid with its cell bodies (red) and nuclei (blue). In their publication, the Bencherif lab and team report the design of injectable oxygen-generating cryogels as a new and minimally invasive strategy to boost antitumor immune responses.
