ChemE Research & Creative Endeavor Awardees

The Department of Chemical Engineering is proud to announce that eight of our students have recently received the Northeastern University Research and Creative Endeavor Awards, under the mentorship of some incredible ChemE faculty, from the Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships.

Congratulations to:

  • James Sinoimeri who won the Advanced Research/Creative Endeavor Award for a project titled “Developing Hypoxia-Inducing Cryogels (HIC) to Produce More Realistic 3D Cancer Models”.
  • Na Yoon Kim who won the Advance Research/Creative Endeavor Award for a project titled “Minimizing Cytotoxicity, Maximizing Renal Clearance: Targeted Delivery of Cysteine-capped Silver Nanoparticles to Drug Resistant Staphylococcus aureus”.  
  • Elizabeth Fink who won the Early Research/Creative Endeavor Award for a project titled “Developing a New Technique for the Formation of Uniform Multicellular Tumor Spheroids”.
  • Tanner Semin who won the Early Research/Creative Endeavor Award for a project titled “Drug Solubility and Stability in the Presence of Gastrointestinal Mucus”.
  • Gabriel Burchett who won the Early Research/Creative Endeavor Award for a project titled “Indirect Cardiac Modulation via the Pharmacological Stimulation of Adrenal Chromaffin Cells in Vitro”.
  • Liyutha Al Ismaili who won the Early Research/Creative Endeavor Award for a project titled “Developing a Strategy to Cryopreserve Cellularized Cryogel-based Scaffolds for Biomedical Applications”.
  • Beth DiBiase who won the Early Research/Creative Endeavor Award for a project titled “Mediation of Serotonin Production by the Gut Microbiota”.
  • Caroline Ghio who won the Early Research/Creative Endeavor Award for a project titled “Iron Transporters in the Gut: Impact of Organic Acids on DMT1, ZIP8, ZIP14”.

We would also like to congratulate the faculty mentors who assisted in the projects above: Professor Rebecca Carrier, Assistant Professor Sidi Bencherif, Assistant Professor Ryan Koppes, Assistant Professor Abby Koppes, and Professor and Department Chair Thomas Webster.
