ECE PhD Student Named a Top 20 New Star in Data Mining

Northeastern ECE PhD Student Hongfu Liu has been named in the Top 20 New Stars in Data Mining, provided by Microsoft searching. Microsoft searching mines the past 6 years of Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD) submissions and combines the big data from Microsoft to then achieve the ranking by an automatic algorithm. KDD is the top conference in the data mining area.

Hongfu Liu is a PhD student under Professor Yun Raymond Fu.

Liu received his bachelor and master degree in Management Information Systems from the School of Economics and Management, Beihang University, in 2011 and 2014. He is currently a second-year PhD student at Northeastern. His research interests generally focus on data mining and machine learning, with special interests in ensemble learning and social media. He has published several papers in top data mining and machine learning conferences including KDD, ICDM, SDM, CIKM, IJCAI and AAAI. In his first year, Liu hit the top 3 data mining conferences, KDD, ICDM and SDM.
