Nayeb-Hashemi & Vaziri on Cover of Orthopaedic Research

MIE Professor Hamid Nayeb-Hashemi & Assistant Professor Ashkan Vaziri’s article on “Effect of frontal plane tibiofemoral angle on the stress and strain at the knee cartilage during the stance phase of gait” is featured on the cover of the Journal of Orthopaedic Research.

Professor Hamid Nayeb-Hashemi received his Ph.D.and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1982 and 1979, respectively, from MIT. He also received a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tehran University in 1975. His research interests include Biomechanics and Mechanics.

Professor Ashkan Vaziri is the Director and Principal Investigator of The High Performance Materials and Structures Lab. The group is focused on studying the mechanical behavior and performance of materials and structures, at various scales from nanowires and living cells to ships and buildings. Their special interest and expertise is development of new concepts and designs for enhancing the performance of structures and materials. They use a combination of methods that range from simple observations and simple scaling laws to detailed computational models and sophisticated experimental equipments to carry out their work.Topics of their work are generally motivated by considering the current challenges and needs in structures, mechanics, materials including biomaterials and biomechanics and nanotechnology. Many of these topics are initiated and carried out via our industrial collaborations.
