Vincent Harris Named Senior Member of The National Academy of Inventors

University Distinguished and William Lincoln Smith Professor Vincent Harris of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northeastern University has been named a Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors. He is among 61 academic inventors named to the 2021 class of NAI Senior Members.

NAI Senior Members are active faculty, scientists and administrators from NAI Member Institutions who have demonstrated remarkable innovation producing technologies that have brought, or aspire to bring, real impact on the welfare of society. They also have growing success in patents, licensing and commercialization.

This latest class of NAI Senior Members represents 36 research universities, government, and non-profit research institutes. They are named inventors on over 617 issued U.S. patents.

Dr. Harris’ research interests encompass a wide range of functional materials and their applications in devices and systems used principally in high-frequency applications such as sensors, radar and communication platforms, nanotechnology, power electronics, and medical diagnostics and therapeutics. Professor Harris has published more than 400 peer-reviewed articles and is inventor or co-inventor on 19 USPTO patents or patent applications. He holds numerous prestigious appointments including being named a Jefferson Science Fellow by the National Academies of Science and Engineering and being elevated to Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, IEEE, and American Physical Society, and as a J. William Fulbright International Scholar.

Following a nomination for NAI Senior Member, individuals undergo a rigorous selection process by the NAI Advisory Committee, which is composed of elected NAI members and other professionals considered pioneers in their respective field.
