Teresa Schmeiszer, E’26, mechanical engineering, advanced her technical skills while working on large-scale milling machines during her co-op at rail industry manufacturer Hegenscheidt in Germany. Growing up speaking German at home, the co-op also deepened her understanding of the language.

Building a Formula One Racetrack in Singapore on Co-op
Industrial engineering student Fernando Alfaro, E’26, is completing a co-op in Singapore with the engineering firm AtkinsRealis, where he serves as a project manager for the construction and dismantling of the Formula 1 racetrack used in the Singapore Grand Prix.

ChE Undergraduates Named Inventors on U.S. Patent From Co-op Experience
Graham MacDonald and Hannah Giusti, E’25, chemical engineering, were named as inventors on a provisional U.S. patent for an alternative method of PFAS treatment. The patent-related work was completed during their co-op at Practical Applications, Inc., which exposed them to new technical practices and networking skills.

Creating a Device To Detect Epileptic Seizures
In collaboration with ECE Distinguished Professor Nian Sun, Mukki Gill, E’25, mechanical engineering and history, is developing Zor, a portable device that can predict when its user is about to have an epileptic seizure. She received a second place Women Who Empower Award from Northeastern in the Powering a Healthy Tomorrow Award category, and an honorable mention in the undergraduate category.
