PhD Spotlight: Suzanne Stasiak, PhD’23, Bioengineering

Suzanne Stasiak earned a PhD in bioengineering with a research focus on airway smooth muscle mechanics and interactions with the extracellular matrix in the context of understanding the development of asthma. She published a first-author paper in Science Advances in August 2020, and in 2021, was awarded the Northeastern University College of Engineering Outstanding Graduate Student Award.

Parameswaran Receives NSF CAREER Award for Better Treatment of Asthma

Assistant Professor Harikrishnan Parameswaran, bioengineering, received a $600K NSF CAREER Award for “Elucidating the Role of Collective Cell-Matrix Interactions in the Mechanobiology of Airway Narrowing.” The research seeks to understand how the smooth muscle detects inhaled irritants and generates force at the cellular level to develop better treatment for people with asthma.
