Best Paper Runner-Up for X5G Open Testbed

Computer engineering PhD students Davide Villa and Imran Khan, along with WIOT Principal Research Scientist Florian Kaltenberger, ECE Professors Stefano Basagni, Josep Jornet, and Tommaso Melodia, and ECE Assistant Research Professor Michele Polese, and ECE Associate Professor Dimitrios Koutsonikolas received the Best Paper Runner-Up for their paper entitled “An Open, Programmable, Multi-Vendor 5G O-RAN Testbed With NVIDIA ARC and OpenAir Interface” at the 2nd Workshop on Next-Generation Open and Programmable Radio Access Networks (NG-OPERA).

The X5G project, launched in 2021, provides the research community with a fully functional, real-world private 5G cellular network deployed at Northeastern University’s Boston campus. This setup uses widely available equipment, such as commercial smartphones, and aims to advance the development and testing of innovative, cutting-edge technologies in 5G wireless networks. X5G is a collaborative effort involving academia and industry partners such as the Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things at Northeastern University, NVIDIA, the OpenAirInterface Software Alliance, and Allbesmart LDA.
