Overview of the general services provided by the Engineering Computer Center to the College of Engineering community. Below are just some of the services we provide to support students, faculty, and staff in their academic and professional endeavors.


  • COE / ECE email (standards-based IMAP and SMTP)
    • Help with COE user accounts, password reset, other basic user account issues
    • Group mailing lists and shared mailboxes
  • COE Windows image with Engineering software
    • COE computer classrooms
    • Departmental labs
    • VLAB — the COE Virtual Lab
  • Hardware/software support
    • Consultation for purchases of new University computer hardware for COE faculty/staff/students
    • Configuration and setup of new computer hardware for faculty/staff/associated students
    • Network connectivity via Ethernet (wired) connections
    • Provide and manage COE network storage of data
    • Reconfiguration or reinstallation of existing computer hardware for COE faculty/staff/students
    • Server room hosting for faculty research computing (space permitting)
    • Software installation on NUNET or COE-managed computers
    • Software license hosting services
    • Supported operating systems include NUNET and COE-managed Linux or Windows
    • Troubleshooting NUNET or COE-managed computers for hardware/software issues
  • Host personal home webpages for faculty, staff, and students, including CGI capability
    • Limited personal file storage in home directories on the COE/ECE systems
  • Liaisons to COE and other University technology partners
  • Recommendations for student personal computer purchases
  • Shell logins (Unix, Linux, Windows)
  • Management of public lab spaces (e.g. 268 Snell Engineering)
