Industrial Engineering Capstone Team Modernizes Parachute Inspection for U.S. Army
Four industrial engineering students received several awards, including the Capstone Day Judges Award, for their Parachute Quality Assurance Modernization Capstone Design project presented at the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers Conference in Montréal. The students, who worked with the U.S. Army Personnel Airdrop Systems team, digitized a paper-based system for recording parachute component measurements.

Industrial Engineering Capstone Team Wins Fourth Place at International Conference for US Open Officiating Project
An undergraduate industrial engineering Capstone team was recognized for their US Open Tennis Championships Electronic Officiating Quality Control project at the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers Conference. The team worked with the United States Tennis Association to help automate and standardize the electronic officiating process for the acclaimed tennis event.

Best Paper Runner-Up for X5G Open Testbed
ECE PhD students, and ECE and WIOT faculty and research staff received the Best Paper Runner-Up for their paper, “An Open, Programmable, Multi-Vendor 5G O-RAN Testbed With NVIDIA ARC and OpenAir Interface,” at the 2nd Workshop on Next-Generation Open and Programmable Radio Access Networks (NG-OPERA).

Bioengineering PhD Develops and Commercializes Breakthrough MRI Technology
Codi Gharagouzloo, PhD’16, bioengineering, co-founded Imaginostics, commercializing a novel technology called QUTE-CE MRI, which is a platform technology for non-invasive imaging that transforms any MRI machine into a powerful quantitative diagnostic tool. Imaginostics was recognized as a finalist among more than 4,500 participants of Hello Tomorrow, a prestigious competition for deep tech startups.

For their Cornerstone of Engineering course project, a group of first-year engineering students in Boston designed and built a set of portable rehabilitation stairs to address a real-world challenge of a hospital in Maine, as part of a collaboration with Northeastern’s Roux Institute in Portland, Maine.

The Institute for NanoSystems Innovation, a first-of-its-kind research institute located on both U.S. coasts, is developing nano-scale technologies to drive innovation and miniaturization of chip-level technology advancements and applications. ECE Professor Matteo Rinaldi is the institute’s director and ECE Professor David Horsley is deputy director.
