Department Faculty Awarded Prestigious NSF IGERT

A research team led by Prof. Sara Wadia-Fascetti and Prof. Dionisio Bernal, as well as researchers from Gordon-CenSSIS and the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez, has been awarded a 5-year, $3 million NSF Integrated Graduate and Education Research Traineeship (IGERT) grant titled "Intelligent Diagnostics for Aging Civil Infrastructure." This is a multinational, interdisciplinary program that will provide significant graduate student support and strengthen our areas of research involving infrastructure health monitoring. Prof. Akram Alshawabkeh and Prof. Mehrdad Sasani were also part of the proposal team.

Congratulations to John Oldham

John Oldham, a Chemical Engineering PhD student, is the recipient of the Dissertation Writing Fellowship for the 2009 Summer Semester. The award is sponsored by the Office of the Provost and offers financial support to Ph.D. candidates so they may spend their final semester writing.

Yener elected ASEE Fellow

Yaman Yener, Associate Dean and Director of the Graduate School has been elected a Fellow of ASEE. The fellow grade is conferred upon an active member of ASEE who has been a member for at least 10 years, in recognition of outstanding contributions to engineering or engineering technology education.

Capstone students create 3D Computer Interface

Five seniors from ECE are the 1st place winners of the 2009 Senior Capstone projects. Justin Schunick, Mark Hollenbeck, Luke Shaheen, Scott Gillette, and Glenn Black built a low-cost human computer interface that tracks a user's movement.
