Several engineering and science students mentored by COE faculty are recipients of Northeastern’s AJC Merit Research Scholarship, which will fund a July to December 2024 co-op in the laboratory of a Northeastern University STEM faculty member.

Maria Andrade, E’96, industrial engineering, was featured in Northeastern’s Spotify episode “Elevate Your Career Through Storytelling Feat” where she explained how she leveraged her co-op experience and people skills for a career in communication, storytelling, and self-compassion advocacy.

Finding Her Passion in Biomechanics Through Co-ops
Co-ops at Insulet and the U.S. Army DEVCOM Soldier Center helped Elizabeth Klemm, E’23, bioengineering and biomedical engineering, determined her career path. She continued at the Soldier Center after graduating, focusing on helmet mass research and how the distribution of that mass may impact soldier performance.

Co-op to Career Position
Jennifer Dueñas López, MS’23, civil engineering, completed a bachelor’s degree in transportation and highway engineering in her home country of Colombia before moving to the Boston area. After graduating from Northeastern with a master’s degree in 2023, she returned to her co-op at HDR to work full-time.

Three Engineering Co-ops and an MBA Lead to Executive Success
Timothy Williams, E’06, mechanical engineering, had success as an engineer in the aerospace industry, which he attributes to a series of three co-ops as a Northeastern undergraduate. He also got an MBA from the D’Amore-McKim School of Business and is now COO at Innofiber.

Personalizing a Path With Civil Engineering Co-ops and a Scholarship
Sebastian Lojano, E’24, civil engineering, had co-ops at Bond Brothers, DN Tanks, and Barletta Heavy Construction, which helped him determine his career plans. He was awarded a scholarship from The Moles, a national fraternal organization, for his demonstrated interest in the heavy construction industry.

Goldwater Scholar Shares Her Research Experiences
Kaitlyn Ramesh, E’25, bioengineering, received the prestigious 2024 Barry Goldwater Scholarship for her undergraduate research in the Lu Lab and the Prigozhin Lab. She is involved with the Women’s Research Engagement Network and received other awards such as the AJC Merit Research Scholarship.
