Bencherif Lab Receives ACORN Award
Chemical Engineering Assistant Professor Sidi A. Bencherif recently received a 2020 ACORN Innovation Award from The Massachusetts Technology Transfer Center for his project entitled “Hypoxia-inducing cryogels as a fast and inexpensive technology for hypoxic cell culture conditions”.

MIE PhD Student Wins IMECE Best Paper Award
Mechanical PhD student Chang Liu was awarded first place in the ASME Noise Control and Acoustics Division student paper competition for the paper “Preliminary Results of Microwave – Induced Thermoacoustics Imaging in Geological Media” which was presented at the 2019 International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition.

Taking Research to the NSF I-Corps ‘Shark Tank’
Zach Rogers, a chemical engineering PhD student in Assistant Professor Sidi A. Bencherif’s lab, developed a novel proposal and was selected to join the Northeastern node of the National Science Foundation’s I-Corps program for his work.

Computer Engineering PhD student Lorenzo Bertizzolo, along with co-authors PhD student Leonardo Bonati, ECE Research Assistant Professor Emrecan Demirors, and Professor Tommaso Melodia won the Best Paper Award at the 13th ACM Workshop on Wireless Network Testbeds, Experimental evaluation & Characterization (WiNTECH) in Los Cabos, Mexico.

ECE Team Wins Best Paper Award at IEEE DySPAN 2019
ECE PostDoc Andrey Gritsenko, Computer Engineering PhDs Zifeng Wang, Tong Jian, Professor Jennifer Dy, Associate Professor Kaushik Chowdhury, and Assistant Professor Stratis Ioannidis received the best paper award at the IEEE DySPAN 2019 conference for their paper on “Finding a ‘New’ Needle in the Haystack: Unseen Radio Detection in Large Populations Using Deep Learning”.
