MIE/ECE Professor Yongmin Liu was awarded a $467,930 NSF grant for “Design and Realization of Multiplexed Meta-Optical Neural Networks.” He will design and implement a novel class of metasurface-based ONNs, which can operate at optical frequencies and realize diverse functions.

Technology To Convert Renewable Energy to Liquids
ChE/COS Assistant Professor Magda Barecka was selected to lead a $986,200 DOE project managed by the ARPA-E GREENWELLS program for “Modular Electrochemical Ethanol Production Using Intermittent Power (Electricity).” She is pioneering new technology to convert dilute carbon dioxide into a concentrated ethanol product using intermittent renewable electricity.

Zheng Wins 2024 Raymond Viskanta Award

Predicting Rainfall With Artificial Intelligence
A research model that uses AI to quickly and accurately predict weather forecasts will be tested by the Tennessee Valley Authority. The model was created by Puja Das, PhD’27, interdisciplinary engineering, who is supervised by CEE Distinguished Professor Auroop Ganguly.
