MIE Professor Hameed Metghalchi was awarded the 2019 ASME George Westinghouse Gold Medal “for 40 years of scientific research and educational efforts in the field of power generation, which have contributed to improved plant operation and efficiency, and reduced pollutants; and for successfully promoting the dissemination of research as editor of ASME’s Journal of Energy Resources Technology.”
Provost and MIE Professor James Bean (PI) and co-PI Professors Barbara Guthrie (Bouvé), Carla Mattos (COS), Hameed Metghalchi (MIE), and Benjamin Hescott (CCIS), along with collaborators Richard Harris, COE Assistant Dean and Director of the Northeastern University Program in Multicultural Engineering, and Sara Wadia-Fascetti, Vice Provost of the PhD Network and CEE Professor, were awarded a $1M NSF grant for the “Strategic Advancement of Rising Scholars (STARS) Nominated by the Northeast Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (NE-LSAMP).”
As part of a $3.5M NSF grant led by Assistant Dean Richard Harris and MIE Professor Hameed Metghalchi, in collaboration with five other universities, a group of LSAMP Scholars participated for the first time in international research at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China.
Energy Systems master’s students, Keyur Jigyasu and Emilda Totozani, were selected as one of only twelve finalist teams globally in the Go Green in the City competition by Schneider Electric focusing on the innovative energy solutions for smart cities.
